Dennis May honoured in Sri Lanka

"The civil war in Sri Lanka went on from 1978-2008 , 30 years of fighting ripped Sri Lanka apart, over 200,000 people lost their lives and 1000's of children were left without parents.

I first met this group of boys when i noticed them all sharing the same mouth guard at a tournament here 3 years ago, I was told they are from an orphanage that the head of the orphanage teaches all the 42 boys Karate. When I met him I gave him all the teaching fees I received so they could buy equipment and milk for the home, and promised I would return one day any teach all the boys at the orphanage Karate. Such a humble and moving experience..

Today I came visited the boys, some had been abandoned as babies outside thr front entrance. They showed me around, where they sleep, eat and train, very humbling. I donated all the grading fees I received to the home, and my Honbu members back in NZ are going to send all their used karate gear, plus I will arrange clothes and toys to be sent.

They love Karate and the boys home is their only family. Very honored to be here today , the head of the home does an amazing job!"
