Miyagi Kan had a big year in 2017 for Sports Awards around Northland in 3 different Sports Awards Ceremonies.
Firstly, Shihan Craig Nordstrand won the Coach of the Year Award, for the Sport Northland awards beating the likes of Rugby, Cricket, Basketball, Hockey, Tennis and other sports codes coaches. This was the result of hard work throughout the year and students from the Miyagi Kan Karate Club winning other sports awards listed below.
- Imogen Ear won best Secondary School Female award
- Cameron Sear won best Secondary School Male award
- Teuarangi Tana won the Best Junior Sportsperson and Senior Sportsperson for the Far North District Sports Awards
And the big award for the year, Teuarangi won the Northland Sports Awards Best Female Karate Award, and the prestigious Under 21yrs Gary Frew Memorial Trophy Sportsperson of the Year Award, beating all the male and female nominees earning herself the $1000 sponsorship towards her next year’s costs.
